LED Lighting Upgrades
Halogen downlights run hot, chew through power, and are a known fire risk near ceiling insulation. A proper LED upgrade fixes all three — and opens up dimmable, colour-changing and even self-adjusting lighting most homes don't realise is an option.
Still got halogen downlights?
If any of these sound familiar, an LED upgrade usually pays for itself fast.
- Halogen downlights that run hot enough to burn your fingers if you touch them
- Replacing blown halogen globes every few months
- Adding or topping up ceiling insulation and worried about halogen clearance rules
- Power bills higher than they should be for the amount of lighting in the house
- Want to change the mood of a room with dimmable or colour‑changing lighting
- Renovating and want lighting suited to how each room's actually used, not downlights everywhere
Why it's worth doing properly
Runs cool, not hot
Halogen downlights run at 200°C+ and are a well-known house-fire risk, especially where insulation sits close to the fitting. LEDs run cool enough to touch, removing that risk almost entirely.
Uses a fraction of the power
LEDs use around 80–90% less energy than halogens for the same light output, and last 15–25 times longer — most installs pay themselves back in power savings within a year or two.
The right white for the room
Warm white suits living rooms and bedrooms, cool white or daylight suits kitchens, bathrooms and garages — we pick the colour temperature (measured in Kelvin) to match how each room's actually used, not one generic white throughout the house.
Smart, colour‑changing & circadian options
From simple dimmers through to RGB colour‑changing feature lighting and tunable‑white LEDs that shift from cool to warm automatically — on a timer, or from a real lux sensor reading the room's actual light level. Works with the same Shelly and C‑Bus systems we already wire into smart‑home and commercial jobs.

- Outdoor, garden & alfresco LED lighting
- Commercial & hospitality feature and signage lighting
- Integration with existing smart‑home & automation systems
40+ ageing halogens, one Southern Highlands home
Over 40 original halogen downlights running through the whole house — hot enough to burn a finger, three or four blown globes a month, and a power bill that reflected it. We converted the lot to LED: a warm white through the bedrooms and living areas, a brighter daylight white in the kitchen and bathrooms, and a tunable-white circuit over the kitchen island that shifts from a crisp white in the morning to a warmer tone in the evening automatically, tied to a real lux sensor rather than a fixed timer so it tracks the actual light outside.
No more scorched fingers on the downlights, a noticeably lighter power bill, and a kitchen that feels right whatever time of day it is.

Frequently asked questions
Why should I replace halogen downlights with LED?
Halogens run at 200°C+ and are a known fire risk near ceiling insulation — LEDs run cool, use a fraction of the power, and last far longer.
Can I get dimmable or colour-changing LED lighting installed?
Yes — dimmable circuits, RGB/RGBW colour-changing and tunable-white/circadian lighting that shifts colour temperature automatically are all options we install.
Do LED downlights need to be IC-rated?
Where downlights sit against ceiling insulation, an IC-rated fitting is required under AS/NZS 3000 — we only install compliant fittings.
